It’s time for an alternative to the Boy Scouts.

I was a scout.  The scouts do great things for boys.  But their anti-gay policy is wholly unacceptable.  This is why I am proud of Avery Elementary School in the Webster Groves School District, who refused to renew the BSA pack charter there.  Ignoring this homophobic policy makes us complicit in it.  It is up to us as parents to provide our children, boys and girls, gay and straight, with activities that accomplish the same objectives that the scouting experience does.  Camp Quest is a good start.  It needs to evolve into a Scout style, during the school year program.
